Harvard FCU Hosts 11th Annual Wintersession for Students
Harvard FCU hosted its 11th annual Wintersession this January with four sessions for Harvard students, spanning two days. Recordings of all four sessions can be found on Harvard FCU’s YouTube channel.
In the first session, Jake Northrup from Experience Your Wealth and Jane Mepham from Elgon Financial Advisors spoke on saving for retirement. “Both speakers provided clear and concise explanations of retirement saving options that students are likely to encounter as they enter the workforce,” said Tom Montilli, Executive Vice President, Chief Experience Officer (CXO) of Harvard FCU.
The second session was led by Shahar Ziv, Harvard FCU Board Member and Co-Founder of our Personal Finance Wintersession seminar. He led the attendees through the step-by-step process of starting to invest. “Just as he did in previous years, Shahar did a wonderful job responding to students’ needs and presenting investing in a way that students of varying experience can easily digest,” said Montilli.
Day two began with Luke Pelger from GreenPath Financial Wellness, who taught everyone about building and maintaining credit. Attendees shared how they found it helpful to learn how credit scores work.
The final last session: Managing Your Money as a Student, was led by a panel comprised of Meadow Hall, Eddie Richardson, Debi Meche, and Evelyn Contreras. This panel touched on daily financial issues students face and how to tackle them appropriately. Each panelist provided their perspectives on finances and collectively communicated understandable and practical solutions to student finances.
Montilli adds, “Harvard FCU is thrilled to have participated in our 11th consecutive Wintersession. Educating students about personal finance is incredibly important, and the Credit Union is committed to supporting these efforts in any way we can.”
